Wilmington House at 374 Randolph
Note from Marilyn about images above and below: This was our first apartment in Wilmington, after we were married. It was a lovely place and the landlady/owner was very sweet and grandmotherly. She enjoyed spoiling us and we enjoyed being spoiled. The interior was craftsman style with lots of dark wood and a few pieces of furniture in the craftsman style. We had a living room, bedroom, and a very large kitchen and dining area. We had a private entrance up the back outside stairs. We lived there for approximately 2 years. After Bill was born, we needed more room. We then bought our first home at 374 Randolph Street.

Getting Married
Purchasing the Wedding Gown - a story from Marilyn
Having grown up in a very rural area of Ohio I was not familiar with shopping “in the city.” Shopping in “the city,” Dayton, Ohio, was exciting on its own, and buying my wedding gown—well, that was beyond words. We went to a small shop, having several styles from which to choose.
Oh yes, I need to add there was a slight issue which impacted the experience. I had broken my wrist roller skating the third week of March and had a cast, bicep to fingers. The long cast was shortened to below the elbow after four weeks. The short cast would be on until the beginning of the second week of May. The wedding date was May 24.
As a side story, David was there to give me moral support while I was having the cast shortened. An electric saw was used to shorten the cast. David did not understand that the blade was designed to vibrate, not rotate, and would not cut the patient. Therefore, when the process to shorten the cast began, he fainted. Once it was determined that he was O.K. the progress continued.
I had a vision that the gown would be white, fitted bodice, long sleeves, waltz length with full skirt of organza and lace. The dress would be waltz length as it was easier to walk. Much to my dismay I was unable to have long sleeves because of the cast. Now to find a gown with short sleeves. I was not pleased.
I found a gown, and the sales lady opened the sleeves under the arm so I would be able to try it on. It was perfect except it did not have long sleeves. The sales lady said, “Oh, wait, here is a solution—the gown comes with elbow length fingertip gloves.” That made the experience almost perfect. I liked the way the gloves looked on my right side, and now the gown was perfect.
With the gown, vail, and shoes purchased I was ready for the big day.
