Doctor William L. Wead
Dr. William L. Wead was a positive influence to our young lives. Without question he was committed to solving our health needs. He delivered me, David, John, Margaret, and later three of our four children.
As an individual he was unique. One evening at the Lees Creek Church he visited with the youth group, playing the organ as a master. This from a man that could not read music. We were amazed watching the muscles in hands, especially between his thumb and index fingers.
As a doctor he could surprise and amaze. House calls in his Chrysler were made when needed. Follow-up of his treatment was the norm.
One could always identify his approach by the gait of his steps and the click of his heels and souls of his shoes. He was known to carry a pair of pliers and a screwdriver to adjust your TV or repair his medical equipment.
Mother had told me I arrived on one of his office examining tables, then placed between two books ends to prevent my rolling off the table. His office had two examination rooms, his own pharmacy and X-ray unit, surgery and recovery rooms.
We were all inspired by this unique doctor.
