April 2016 Visit to Venice by John, DJ, Carmelia
(this page is a work in progress)
Snook Haven is at the "end of the road" East of Venice at red map icon above. Civilization as we know it ends on the dirt road terminating at the protected Myakka River. This is one of the few remaining areas known as "Old Florida." Snook Haven is one of the "must see and experience" locations in Florida. A unique restaurant with loud live entertainment is its hallmark. The Myakka River is the home of alligators. One can experience the river in an electric pontoon boat quietly floating the waters through an unspoiled overgrowth of Florida vegetation, much as it has been for centuries. Philip's Harbor Lights community is on the harbor inside the blue circle on the left of the map. You can use Google, including the Earth view, for more information and a more detailed map.
