Bertha Myers and the New Waynesville Ohio Library
The Waynesville Library started in one room in the Hiami House Hotel in 1917.
Over time, it was located in a variety of buildings such as the American Legion building which was a former schoolhouse.
The future of the Library was bleak.
Bertha Myers, a Library Board Trustee, expressed concern about the library's future to her husband William Myers.
He told her about a State of Ohio school statute that facilitates funding of community libraries.
With a possible funding method, the Library Board and Friends of the Library started the community library campaign.
The $550,000 funding measure passed and construction started in 1987.
The new library opened June 3, 1988 and for the first time in its 71-year history, the Library had its own beautiful building shown below.

Years earlier, the Women had been told: "You bunch of old Ladies can't fund and build a new Library".
But they did just that!
