Here is what I remember of painting this picture: I had a primed masonite board (primed on the smooth side) and took it to art class which met with Andy Copp in the school cafeteria. I must have been a sophomore at that point. It was painted with Permanent Pigments brand oil paint which helps explain the vividness. I must have been about 15 at the time. I worked from a black and white reproduction of a farm scene which to me needed more burgeoning of the crops so I exaggerated the shocks of grain and carried the same theme out in the treeline and clouds.
I liked the result very much, I probably made the frame in shop class. The shocks and trees and clouds had a lot of finger painting and yes, I also used a palette knife and some brush work. It went really fast (I remember it as having in a single double-period class. (which astounded everyone including me). It must have been something like Vincent von Gogh experienced.
